DON'T BUY ANYTHING IN STORES THAT SELL LIVE ANIMALS

Lodge does not advocate buying ANY animal in ANY pet store. Most people
consider their pets members of the family. We would not invite just anyone
to live with us without knowing something about their background so why
would you pick up your next family member at a store where you know nothing
about the background of that pet. There are reputable breeders that sell
healthy dogs and we want to help you connect with them. This service is
free of charge and we do not benefit in any way (unless you happen to
pick a puppy that our owner Cyndie, breeds, but that is not our goal.)
We aim to help you find the best pet for your lifestyle and to link you
up with reputable breeders. As Cyndie has shown and bred dogs for more
than twenty years she has gotten to know many great breeders. Please ask
us for advice when looking at bringing a new family member into your home.
The only way to break the cycle of homeless animals in shelters, abuse of animals in pet stores, and by initially well-intentioned pet owners is to stop all demand for the animals in the pet stores. Even if you think a particular pet store is good to its' animals, supporting that store supports the negative cycle of puppy farms, animal abuse and misinformation. A good breeder can show you hip x-rays, eye exams and lineage lines to prove the health of the animal you a buying. Not only that but you can usually meet the mother dog and examine her. Do you like her temperament. How are the other dogs that the breeder owns?
At
rescues and shelters, potential adopters are screened and qualified. Likewise,
a reputable breeder will be interviewing you as much as you interview
them. Someone who invests lots of time and money into making their dogs
champions wants to see them go to quality homes. Stores that sell pets
do not offer this same quality. This greatly reduces the IMPULSE BUY at
the pet store--a huge contributor to animal neglect, misinformation, abuse,
and abandonment.
When at all possible, you should buy supplies for your animals at pet stores that do not carry animals – like our shop. Please do not support stores that carry animals, like PetsMart and Petco. Even local pet stores that sell animals are supporting the often illegal, and usually neglectful puppy trade.
